Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a manual treatment method that focuses on addressing the root cause of complaints. It examines the relationships between the joints, spine, organs, and other tissues of the human body. For a feeling of well-being, the body must move according to its natural balance. Disturbances of this balance, known as movement blockages or restrictions, can lead to complaints.

Complaints arising from loss of movement or function in a bone, joint, muscle, or organ are mainly caused by reduced blood flow and/or impaired nerve conduction affecting the specific structure. Treating these structures restores blood flow and nerve function, allowing the body to heal itself and reducing the complaint.

With their hands, the osteopath can assess and, if necessary, improve the mobility of nearly any structure in the human body,  aiming to stimulate the body’s self-healing capacity.

Holism

The osteopath works on three interdependent systems:

  • The parietal system consisting of the musculoskeletal system, including the joints, muscles, and tendons;
  • The visceral system consisting of the organs and the connective tissue (fascia) surrounding the organs;
  • The craniosacral system consisting of the skull, the spine, the sacrum, and the meninges.
